Carpet Care Tips

Green, Clean Healthy Tips for your Home!

Thank you for trusting us with your carpet, upholstery and tile needs in your home. We thought we'd offer some tips that we've found to be successful to be used in the home!

How Often Should I Vacuum? How often should I vacuum? According to the Carpet & Rug Institute, at least 2 times per week. If no time for a thorough cleaning, then at minimum do the traffic areas

Cleaning Dog HairPet hair on upholstery can be difficult to totally remove with the vacuum. By using a damp towel, run your hand over the furntiure to lift up the pet hair with the towel.

Cleaning TipMake sure you clear away the snow from your dryer vent!

Cleaning Tip

Spritz window with white vinegar, use cloth, and finish with newspaper. Amazingly shiny!

Blind Cleaning Tip

Use a sock over your hand to easily clean your blinds.

Cleaning Tip

Easy way to air dry sponges is to use a binder clip and “stand” the sponge up to dry.

Cleaning Tip  It’s that time in Inidiana again for fresh berries. To help them from going moldy, make a mixture of one part vinegar (white or apple cider) and ten parts water (don’t want too much vinegar or the berries will taste funny).  Swirl fruit in mix, drain, rinse and put in fridge

Cleaning TipWhen you get the bug to move around your furniture, make sure and protect your floors. Socks on the “legs” of your furniture will help keep you from scratching your floors.

Cleaning TipFight oil with oil! Use vegetable oil on a paper towel and wipe off the greasy stove. I was so intrigued with this that I got off my desk chair and tried cleaning the tip top of my stove. AMAZING! No more harsh cleaners needed for this difficult task.

Rotate Furniture CushionsRotate your furniture cushions quarterly to help prolong the life of your furniture.

Cleaning TipSome cleaners you use on your sinks, toilets, and counters contain bleach. Word of advise-be careful when carrying those containers around the house as you may end up with bleach spots on the carpets! If you do end up with bleach marks, give Chem-Dry a call for an estimate on speciality spot removal.

Clean Up SpillSpills happen! When they do, blot them with a clean, white towel. DO NOT RUB OR SCRUB! Apply Chem-Dry Spot Remover OR small amount of water and BLOT again using your body weight over the towel. Usually the spot will lift, but if any remains call us for professional removal of the stain! These steps will allow the best possible chance of total removal!

Dirty Oven CleanerAn amazing oven cleaner consists of 3-4 drops of Dawn Dish Soap, 4 tbsp. Baking Soda, 5 tbsp. vinegar, and juice of 1 lemon. Mix carefully as you don’t want to create a science fair experiment with the soda and vinegar, rub on oven, let sit few hours, and scrub out oven. Make sure you remove all the cleaner before you turn on the oven.

Christmas TipA tip for Christmas decorating. Whether you prefer artificial or real trees, use shiny, green tinsel to make the tree look fuller. Wrap tinsel close to the trunk of the tree for best results.

Thanksgiving Cleaning TIp

Tip for the kitchen this holiday. If you accidently burn something in your pan on Thursday, boil 1 cup water and 1 cup vinegar. Add 3 tablespoons of baking soda and watch it fizz. When mix settles, wash with soap and water. This will help remove burnt on accidents.

Falling out of BedKids falling out of bed? Put a pool "noodle" under a fitted sheet. This will help keep the kids in bed.

Clean the FanTake a pillowcase, cover the blades one at a time, and wipe clean with the pillow case. Traps the “flying” dirt while cleaning at the same time! I clean my blades this way and it’s amazingly easy and effective!

Grill Clean Up

What a wonderful summer it’s been, and when you look at your outdoor grill you can tell it’s gotten lots of use! Make sure the grill is cool and sprinkle baking soda on a sponge and rub down the grill racks. Don’t use a metal brush as it could leave small metal shards that could get in your food the next time you grill!

Vacuum Maintenance It might be time to replace or empty your vacuum bag. Make sure and do this when they are half to two-thirds full. This will allow your vacuum to last longer and pick up more debris. And don't forget to clean off the beater bar!
